Who would have thought? That when we met for the first time and you planted those huge feet of yours on top of a 9 year old boys shoulders, looking him straight in the eye, that you would become best friends? Who would have thought that even though you for the first four years that you filled our lives that you would literally eat your way through everything that you could? Who would have thought that the sandals, leashes, clothes, pop tabs and place mats that were eaten would pass through, but the nylon leash would require surgery? Who would have thought that you, Renegade, adopted dog not once but at least three times, would be called the best dog we ever had?
To know Renegade was to love Renegade. When we first brought Renegade home he was compared to a pony on speed. Everything he did was almost frantic, until he finally figured out that he was in his forever home. Renegade never hurt a soul, loved everyone unconditionally and would greet you with something in his mouth whenever you came in the door. Every morning it was a tug of war to get the dirty socks that his boy left on the bedroom floor out of his mouth before going outside. It could be embarrassing when company would come over and he would greet them with dirty underwear, but then most of our company would understand that they were entering a dog family and laugh it off. Renegade made sure that everyone felt welcomed in his house, if he didn’t lean on you at some time then he must surely have crept his way into your lap to give you some Reny loving. To simply say that Reny was a character is an understatement; to say that he is greatly missed isn’t saying enough. It is difficult when you take your best friend to the Dr because he isn’t feeling well, then you find out that he has cancer and never makes it home again. It is almost as difficult as having to tell his boy (now 16 years old) that his best buddy is gone and there wasn’t anything that we could do for him. The void that Renegades passing has left in our home and hearts is as big as his appetite was, and like his appetite it will be hard to fill again.
Renegade is greatly missed by his family, Mitch (his boy) Molly, Kim and Ron and by his four legged friends as well. Ribbon doesn’t have a playmate anymore, and Hunny Bee doesn’t have anyone to race to the food bowls with anymore. Just remember boy, when we all meet again you better have some serious loving stored up in you!
