Success Stories for 2000

GRRACE is in the process of updating the success stories pages. If there are any omissions or corrections please let the webmaster know and corrections will be made. Thank you for your patience.

Mickey joined us on September 12, 2000, which is now his birthday. His story was told in the 2001 Rescue Parade. Here's a 2005 update. Mickey has mellowed into a fine older fellow. From his pretty-aggressive beginnings, he's calmed into a dog who welcomes other dogs (that we've invited in). This spring we brought home a kitten; she's to be a barn cat. Her first moments here, though, she met Mickey--who let her walk right under his legs! They've been buddies ever since, even though Tippy's idea of fun is to hide and pounce...or to do a somersault over a sleeping Mickey's tail and then "attack" his tail. We also now have a 2-year old Great Pyrenees who is a pasture dog, but he and Mickey ride in the car together to go to the vet, and they're both friendly with each other. Glenn and I just smile at the changes in this boy. Does he still chase and bark at trucks? Yes. Does he still give himself lick granulomas from time to time? Yes. But is he the best, most handsome, neatest dog? Yes. We're so glad Mickey is ours and we are his.

Hi, I'm Monty (formerly Jack). I'm the handsome blonde. I'm mostly Golden and partly Chow Chow. My mom says I sometimes have a split personality! I live in a house with two adult two-leggers, a Golden Retriever sister (Whitney) and two meows. When I first came to live here, those meows didn't like me two much because I was so hyper and they were so fun to chase! I've been to 'bedience twice because I just can't pay attention so well when I'm excited. Who can?! Besides, Whitney behaves so well that I gotta stir things up a little! My favorite hobbies include: eating, squeaking woobies while running around the house (at all hours), wrestling with Whitney, and napping. In 2002, my two-leggers bought their own house and now we all
volunteer for GRRACE! I try to help new foster dogs learn how to do things like potty outside, not eat my stuff, and act cute when meeting potential families. Thank you Linda and GRRACE for finding me a forever home! My Hoomins love me lots! Oh yeah, and I think Whitney and the meows think I'm okay too!

Evie00-060.jpg (52793 bytes)

Evie was adopted August 3, 2000 after a lengthy search. She was turned in by a woman who worked in a county animal shelter and she felt Evie's best option was to be sent to a rescue group where she would have a better chance of getting a good home and the medical care that she needed. Being heartworm positive, she received the treatment and was updated on all her shots before we adopted her. Evie showed up on the website on Sunday, we met her Tuesday and adopted her on Thursday--all in the same week! Even though she was still undergoing treatment for heartworms, she was ready to go home with her new family. Evie is now healthy and enjoys long naps, walks to the park, helping with yard work and laying in the sunshine. She completed obedience training and is now a Canine Good Citizen. Evie now shares her home with 2 retired grand champion rabbits named Big Mac and Megan. She also has referred several other families to GRRACE in hopes of helping them find their forever friend.

A Champion

Devlin, now named Oakley, was adopted in Sept. of 2000. Oakley and Kasie, his new best little friend went to obedience class early on. In 2002 these two decided to do 4-H together, and with the obedience they did earlier were in Level 2. Kasie and Oakley worked very hard all year, and were hoping for a blue ribbon to reward them for their efforts. Oakley was doing pretty good, but there were a lot of dogs with many more years experience so we didn't have high expectations. The evening they gave the awards, they gave Kasie and Oakley not just a blue ribbon but the trophy for highest score in Obedience for Level 2, the trophy for highest score in Obedience overall in all 5 levels, AND for the highest total points for Obedience and Showmanship a beautiful trophy and ribbon for Grand Champion!! When they announced the winner we were all looking the other way, it took a few seconds to even register! What a wonderful surprise! Kasie's feet have not touched the ground yet!!

GRRACE extends congratulations to Kasie and Oakley

nonie-sp.jpg (37292 bytes)

I might be one of the senior gals around GRRACE, but the best years of my life are yet to come. My name is  "Nonie" now and where I used to live I wasn't allowed in the house. I had to stay outside or if the weather was bad, I could stay in the garage. Well Fritz and Penny brought me home and the indoor life is for me! I think my smile says it all!  To top it off they also adopted Hunter, another senior a couple of years ago and now he's my best buddy. Old Gold is great, and there's plenty of it around here now! Now, where'd that hunk Hunter get off to......

renegade.jpg (21664 bytes)

"Renegade" is the name, ah, the good ole days. Anyway, they call me Reny now and I kind of like that name. I used to be a bit of a character, well guess I still am, but boy am I having the time of my life now. My folks have learned to barricade the kitchen when they leave. They kinda understand my fondness for bread and apples, but they're still trying to figure out the banana peels and sandals. Ok, I'm getting better since I learned that there is no lack of food for me here. They're still trying to teach me that I don't have to sit in everyone's lap, but I can't help myself. I am learning obedience and I finished sixth in my class at one show, and I've also qualified in Agility. People are starting to believe in me, I guess all I really needed was someone to show me the way.

lucky.jpg (12764 bytes)

Hi, my name is "Lucky" and boy does my name describe my life now! At first I didn't really think so, cause I lost my good buddy, but then my new family came along. I just love being with my new parents and I just have to follow them everywhere! But they keep saying that the bathroom just isn't big enough any more for some reason, I didn't realize that bathrooms could change their size. Well, I gotta go and find my folks, they can't stand for me to be away from them for very long.

ike-2.jpg (43071 bytes)

My name is "Ike" now. I finally found my forever home and as you can see I've got a pretty neat new little sister too! Things weren't looking real good for me for awhile, but boy has my life changed for the better!  I got people to take care of me and now, well I've got a little one I gotta watch out for too. Looks like we were just made for each other. My life really did get GRRACED when my new family found out about me.

shilo.jpg (27632 bytes)

"Shilo" spent the first 4 years of his life tied to a tree with a dog house. Times have changed and so has Shilo's lifestyle. Shilo now has a Golden brother, and a 2 legged brother and sister and a new mom and dad and a home where he gets to spend all his time inside with his new family. He's seen the bad side, now he gets to enjoy the good side of life......

shayna.jpg (29900 bytes)

"Shayna" came to GRRACE as a very scared little girl. While in her foster home she gained confidence and when her forever family came to meet her, she went right up to them as if to say "here I am!" She's now in her new home with lots of room to run and a new Golden sister and lots of love from her new family.

maggie.jpg (40400 bytes)

"Maggie" is our well traveled little stray. She was picked up in Western Indiana, traveled to Indy where she was fostered and now lives in her new home in Northern Indiana. This little gal has won the hearts of everyone she's come in contact with. She bonds quickly and is now living the good life. She even gets to go to work with her new mom.

molly2000.jpg (37880 bytes)

"Molly" was turned in because of a family crisis. She lost her home but not her Golden spirit. She is now in a new home where she is showered with lots of love and attention. She has a great yard to run in and family to hold her whenever she wants. Her new family had just lost their Golden of many years, and Molly has stepped in to help fill the void.

alex331.jpg (50288 bytes)

"Alex" didn't take long to find his new home. Little Alex was turned in to the Lafayette Humane Society because his family wasn't allowed to keep him any more. Alex now has three new Golden brothers and a new mom and dad to give him the good life. This was one of the lucky ones.

ginger00-045.jpg (24996 bytes)

Miss Ginger! Her family couldn't take care of her and her sister anymore because of illness. They came to GRRACE and for the first time in their lives had to be separated. It was so traumatic as she was so shy and timid. She wiggled her way into the heart of her foster mom (in three days!) She is gaining confidence, is spoiled (she thinks she's a princess), loves to sit on her mom's lap, and wants to know where her mom is all the time. She lives with her mom, golden sister, Jessie, 2001, and the cat (who thinks he is a dog) that she raised. (He was rescued at 5wks.) She now has a sister again who watches out for her and they are like two peas in a pod!

AprilandherKids.JPG (222293 bytes)

We adopted April in November of 2000, she was already full grown and very well mannered and potty trained. This is what made her such a good fit for our home. At the time the boys were 3 and 7 we really needed a dog that would be great for the kids to love and already trained. She loves to roll around on the floor, play tug of war, and go outside to watch the boys play basketball. She also loves to go bye bye, even if it is just around the block.

Because we do not have any history on April the kids decided her birth date would be the same as her human moms, April 1st. April loves her boys but when it comes down to it she is a mommies dog, she likes to go everywhere with me. We moved last year to a new home and April has adjusted well. She really likes her new neighbors (they like to pet her) and has picked out a few favorite spots (screened in patio and tile floors) for napping.

She has been a great addition to the family.
