GRRACE is a not-for-profit organization serving Indiana, staffed entirely by volunteers, and dedicated to Golden Retrievers in need. We strive to provide a loving and caring environment for Goldens who have been surrendered by their owners who can no longer care for them.

Who We Are

We’re all volunteers who dedicate our time to finding loving new homes for Golden Retrievers once we’ve addressed any medical or behavioral problems they may have. We take in Goldens when their owners no longer want them, when they are abandoned at shelters or when they are picked up as strays. GRRACE, Inc. is an Indiana non-profit, IRS 501(c) (3) organization committed to rescuing Golden Retrievers in need. We’ve been around for awhile—GRRACE was founded in 1997—but many of our volunteers rescued dogs informally for years before.

Why We Rescue Goldens

Pet overpopulation creates an enormous problem in the United States. Each year, about 4 million dogs and cats are euthanized in shelters throughout this country. Why? There are many reasons. Irresponsible breeders have litters of puppies to earn extra cash; uninformed owners buy Goldens without understanding the needs of the breed they’ve selected, then are overwhelmed and abandon them; and, sometimes circumstances change for even the best owners so that they can no longer care for their Goldens.

What We Do

We can’t correct the national problem of pet overpopulation. But, the volunteers of GRRACE are committed to locating and rescuing Golden Retrievers in need throughout Indiana.  We work with shelters and owners in an effort to match wonderful Goldens with great families looking to a adopt them. So, though we can’t change the world, we can change the circumstances of hundreds of Golden Retrievers, which makes a world of difference to them.  If you’d like to help us by volunteering, check out our Volunteer section on this website. You can also donate to the organization. Thanks!
